Iberian golfing royalty . . .
The Algarve region is regarded as one of Europe’s premier golf destinations attracting more golfers than any other European golf destination. Golf Tourism continues to grow in the Algarve every year.
There are now more than 30 courses and, such is their quality, choosing the best is clearly a matter of personal choice and preference.
Golf World magazine, recently, ranked San Lorenzo as the 28th best course in continental Europe . Close by are the Ocean and Royal courses at Vale do Lobo with their backdrop of stunning views across the Atlantic, rolling fairways dotted with knots of pine, olive and eucalyptus and the North and South courses at Quinta do Lago.
In addition, there is a great variety of courses within easy reach of the lively cosmopolitan resort of Vilamoura, including the Old Course, Laguna, Pinhal , Millennium & Victoria . In nearby Quarteria lies the established Vila Sol – 27 picturesque and challenging holes plus a beautiful plantation style club house.; ‘marvelous’ as Peter Alliss would say. The modern courses of Laranjal, Faldo & O’Connor provide a contemporary setting and no least challenging alternative to the longer established favorites.
This variety of top quality golf courses is complemented by a wide range of first class accommodation and restaurants.
Quinta do Lago and Vale do Lobo offer exceptional choice from local traditional Portuguese food to high end dining, as does Vilamoura. Here the marina affords the diners and drinkers in the surrounding restaurants and bars the chance to people watch and guess where the glamorous craft have come from. You can also find some real hidden gems away from the busy marina boardwalk serving great local produce in traditional settings.
